FPC Norman is an active mission church! Our activities include several local projects.

Our Mission

As a church, we work together to support the promotion of social justice and the shelter, nurturing, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God. Church members perform service projects in our community, as well as nationally and globally. We like to have the “go, see, serve and learn” mentality.

Local Mission

First Presbyterian is active in our community — we serve meals at Food & Shelter, as well as support the Urban Mission back-to-school backpack program and our Adopt a School project in partnership with Wilson Elementary School.

Our members can be found walking in the CROPWalk, feeding those who are hungry, providing Christmas gifts to families who might not have them otherwise, tutoring children, and doing what we can to support those in need in our community.

Consider joining us in our efforts to make Norman a better place.

World Mission

We also like to travel! FPCN has a sister congregation in the Dominican Republic, in the city of Los Mina. The mission committee organizes a trip to visit them regularly, often bringing needed dental care and offering our assistance with the challenges of their school and community.

First Presbyterian Church supports a number of different partnerships with the Iglesia Evangelica Dominicana and the Hainamosa School in the Dominican Republic .

This fruitful partnership has included mission trips to provide dental care, financial and physical construction support for the Hainamosa School, water projects, and connectional relationship building with our siblings in Christ in this partner church and community.

Social Justice Ministries

Our Social Justice sub-committee can be found working for social justice in partnership with the Xenia Institute, and providing opportunities to explore social justice with our neighbors in the Norman community through lectures, visits with one another, and through service.

First Presbyterian supports social justice through partnership with the Xenia Institute for Social Justice, and through the work of the Mission subcommittee on social justice:

  • Attend the Sam Matthews Humanitarian Award Dinner

  • Help sponsor community dialogues

  • Promote inter-racial and inter-religious dialogue and understanding

Earth Care Team

The Green Team at First Presbyterian Church of Norman (FPCN) works to continue the church's commitment to supplemental efforts to care for God's creation throughout our congregation and in our local community. The primary goal of the Earth Care Team members is to encourage and document the growing interest in environmental awareness by our congregation members. The Earth Care Team also reaches out to several other Christian denomination members in our area to learn about what their churches are doing to care for God's creation. Those efforts have previously led to the Earth Care Team hosting its "Night at the Movies," featuring the climate change related film, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power. The Earth Care Team continues to emphasize recycling and reuse of containers and other waste products. The role of the former Green Team shifted in 2018 as the Session recognized the Green Team as a new Earth Care Subcommittee, which is now a component of the church's Mission Committee.

The First Presbyterian thrift shop is open to the public Thursdays from 9:00 a.m.
