About Us A little about us-
We are a congregation of almost 900 members, and part of the Presbyterian Church USA. Although we are a traditional denomination, we feel free to explore new ways to promote our spiritual growth as Christians, through creative forms of worship, study and service.
We believe Christ calls us to extend God's justice and mercy within our own community, and to all creation. We strive to provide Christian education that engages the mind and heart for all age groups; to build connections within our church family; to be ministers of healing and reconciliation; and to enjoy regular social events that unite us in fun and Christian love.
We are committed to regularly joining together in worship with prayer, preaching, music and the sacraments. Presbyterians invite all those who love the Lord to share in communion, served on the first Sunday of each month.
Complimentary copies of These Days, daily meditations and devotions written by clergy and lay leaders and published by Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, are available at the Welcome Center desk. Pick up your copy today. Mission, Values and Vision
Mission Statement
We, the people of First Presbyterian Church of Norman, believe we are called by God to be a guiding light and a transforming influence in our community and beyond. Trusting in the love of God, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we strive to fulfill our calling by committing ourselves to five core service areas: Worship, Christian Nurture, Member Care, Mission and Evangelism.
Values
We, the people of First Presbyterian Church of Norman, because of our Presbyterian heritage, value an informed theology; a shared leadership; and a diversity of theological and spiritual expression.
Because of our congregation's history and location, we value our involvement in the Norman community; our relationship with the university community; and our placement on Campus Corner.
Because of the gifts God gives, we value our children and youth; the stranger who worships with us; music in the life of the church; fellowship with one another; each person's spiritual growth; God's call to service; and the opportunity to respond with our time, talent and treasure.
The following are five key ways we meet our value statement:
Vision
First Presbyterian Church, Norman, will become a thriving and growing church reflecting an environment of hospitality, fostering a spirit of open and frank inquiry and facilitating the creative and active participation of its members who continually seek to discover and apply their God-given gifts in all five areas of the church’s ministry.
